Balconies: Steel or Concrete?
Design Features:
Balconies
A balcony is a platform projecting from the wall of a building, supported by columns or brackets, and enclosed with a balustrade. Balconies can be tailored made to exact specifications, and are used for a decorative or functional purpose. Key Issues to be considered when designing a balcony: - Concrete or Steel - balconies can be manufactured from steel or concrete
- Drainage and Weathering
- Decking and Soffit finish required
- Type of Balustrade required
Balconies can be manufactured from steel or concrete. Concrete Concrete Balconies are a heavier option but they have a smooth-formed finish sloping surface and floor drain. They are mainly used for apartment blocks. Steel Structural Steel Balconies are a lightweight option and must be galvanised to prevent any rotting or rusting.
